Well, if you are anything like me the idea of ever getting something like this off the ground and running a machine successfully seems pretty daunting and almost led me down the aisle of off the shelf plug and play lesser alternatives.
Determined not to be put off the idea I soldiered on and after a few hiccups managed to get LinuxCNC installed complete with Probe_Basic GUI installed. In trial mode. That's about as far as my project has gotten so far.
What I should have done was find a well educated and knowledgeable fellow and follow his super duper simple Youtube tutorials. Alas though, now there is just that someone...
A friend of mine called Phil Timpson (aka the feral engineer) has gone and started doing just that. He has begun a series of Youtube shows documenting his progress through the minefield of brilliance that is LinuxCNC.
If you are reading this, and you have gotten this far you may well be interested in having a go yourself with Linux CNC.
Please check out his first video over at Youtube on the link below...
If you've ever used LinuxCNC, this video isn't for you.
If you haven't, this video is a brief introduction to the basics of downloading, creating a bootable USB stick and some navigation of the Linux environment as well as an introduction to the Axis and Gmoccapy user interfaces. If anyone would like more basic content like this, please let me know. I'll gladly go into detail with whatever you'd like to learn.
Please Like, Share Subscribe to this Blog and The Feral Engineer's Youtube channel if you have found it useful. Phil has already made some follow up videos and plans to make many more. Watch this space for more related content...
We hope you enjoy.
